A HISTORY OF GOD'S FAITHFULNESS
1930's
1937
Bright Light Church unofficially started their first gathering by a group of individuals who were on fire for Christ. The first gathering was organized by a group of prayer warriors who regularly met inside of a school building and identified as Bay-shore Church. As the prayer meetings began to grow a board voted on the official name of Bright Light Baptist Missionary Church on July 30th of 1937 under the leadership of Pastor and Reverend C.B. Johnson. Votes were cast by Reverend Odell Haskins, Reverend L. Liggins, Reverend. R.K. Kirkwood, Reverend J.C. Banks, Reverend L.B. Goins, Reverend L. Liggins, Deacon Ivory and James Smith, St. Mary’s Baptist Church of Hankamer Texas, First Baptist Church of Anahuac, and Reverend C.B. Bailey the first Reverend to preach a message at Bright Light Church.
1940's
1940
Bright Light Church acquired land to build a church facility on. The
104 X 104 square foot land was purchased for $100 from community member George Haskin.
1942
A loan was consigned on August 14th to purchase a 4-bedroom house for $115 to serve as the official church building. The loan was cosigned by Deacon Ivory and James Smith, Leonard Rivon Sr., Reverend R. Bailey, Reverend Odell Haskins, Ocie Rivon, Roy Bailey, Manves Smith and Joseph Bailey Sr., and the house was installed that same year on church grounds.
1972
1970's
Reverend Godfrey was called to Pastor Bright Light Church. His heart for baptisms led to the installation of a baptism pool in May of 1972. This gave all members access to be baptized inside church doors.
1980's
1983
Reverend Godfrey continued to grow the vision of the church and purchased a communion table for The Lord’s Supper in November of 1983
1987
As the church grew the desire for fellowship grew. Under the pastoring of Reverend Godfrey, a cafeteria was added to Bright Light Church to be used as a community center for church gatherings and activities. This addition was made on May 1, 1987.
1990's
1996
A spirit of praise and worship grew within the church under the Leadership of Pastor Lester R. Speights and First Lady Yvonne Carol Speights. A grand piano and organ were purchased, and Mrs. Speights officially became the minister of music.
1998
Every house needs divine inspiration and decoration. Inspired by the growth of the church Brother Robert and Sister Lillian Fontenot purchased stained glass windows and Deacon Evie Pete and Brother Paul Peter partnered with them on this mission in 1998.
2003
2000's
Preparing the way for a modern look, the church parking lot was freshly paved, and specialty church pews were built on site in the sanctuary of the church building by a master craftsman.
2007
Several church members and leaders caught fresh vision to join the ministry leadership team under Pastor Lester Speights. These leaders were ordained as official ministers under his leadership: Dec. Charles Moore, Dec. Nathan Smith, Dec. Anthony Jackson, Dec. Ferdinand Fontenot, Dec. Gregory Jackson, Dec. Ronald Smith, Dec. Mervin Thomas, Dec. Emmitt Richardson, Dec. Wayne Hill, Dec. J.R. Thomas, Dec. John Stevens, Jr., and Dec. Rodney Johnson, Sr.
2021
Pastor Lester Speights migrated to heaven on October 13, 2021. Called to continue the legacy of love at Bright Light Church, his son, Pastor Archie Speights was elected as the succeeding Pastor.
